The next author on the Penguin Teen Author Spotlight has a double life - Ron Bass cowrote the mysterious and amazing Lucid with Adrienne Stoltz (who will be on the Penguin Teen Author Spotlight on Thursday!) AND he’s the Hollywood screenwriter responsible for movies like Rain Man and Stepmom. Fortunately for Ron, he knows for sure both of his lives are very real, unlike the main character(s) in Lucid!

Name: Ron Bass
Novel: Lucid
Available: October 2nd

Who’s your favorite author, living or dead? John LeCarre – master spy novelist and a genius at surprises, reversals, the playing out of hidden agendas in his characters. He inspired me to write my first novel.
What’s your favorite thing about your book? The fact that each girl actually considers the possibility that she herself might not be real. The power of imagination to work on our own insecurity to the level that we could doubt our own reality.
If you could spend one year on a deserted island with one character from literature, who would you choose? Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s - my major lifetime crush.
Where do you write? The 9th floor pool deck of the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills, Preferably cabana number 8. On weekends at home in my backyard under a 200 year old oak tree.
Who is your favorite hero or heroine of history? Winston Churchill.
Do you tweet? What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever tweeted? I don’t tweet, I don’t facebook, I don’t social media. I really appreciate all the help that social media has given to the book but I must admit to concerns that social media makes for superficial contact and not more meaningful relationships.
What is your favorite season? My favorite three seasons are summer, summer and summer.
If you could teleport anywhere in the known universe right now, where would you go? Rue De Seine, Paris, France 6th arrondissement.
Do you have any writing rituals? Too many to list. One of the stranger ones is beginning work each day around 3:15 am.
What is your idea of earthly happiness? Feeling secure in the love of someone I love.
What is the best concert you’ve ever been to? Rolling Stones at the Greek Theater with the Red Hot Chili Peppers opening.
What are you currently working on? Several screenplays, several teleplays, but most importantly my next novel with Adrienne.
…………
Thanks Ron! We already can’t wait until yours and Adrienne’s next novel!
