Does Skype in the Classroom only work with the obvious classrooms or would an author talk to, say, a children's or teen book club at a library?

Sorry it took me long to answer this, but I just wanted to double check the answer before I posted it:

Skype in the Classroom can also work in a library, or a teen book club, but the connector would still need to be an adult or teacher.

Althought I know you guys are all about young-adult readers, do you ever take on young-adult apprentices and authors? Or would you say that generally speaking, a good author is one who has had more life experience than those from the ages of 18-25?

Many authors of young adult literature are “young adults” themselves in the more literal sense (i.e. not teenagers, but adults in their early twenties). At Penguin (and I’m sure this is true of all houses), we strive to publish the best books and authors we can, and if the author is quite young, then the author is quite young. It’s certainly not unheard of by any means.

This probably won’t be a popular answer, because it’s vague, but it really depends. For some it’s easy, for some it’s very hard. There are so many factors that go into it that there’s no way to boil it down further. Websites like AgentQuery.com, however, are extremely helpful in navigating the process of getting published. Hey Guys! I was wondering, how do you guys feel about the teasers for the Golden Lily, by people who have already read the book? The teasers you guys released were amazing, but they're are individuals releasing hard core teasers and I accidentally came across them on tumblr...I didn't even realize they were real because I can't believe somebody would go and ruin the book for us like that. Anyways, I wanted to know your stance. I don't know if it's a big issue but I've heard a few of complaints:(

Thanks for letting us know. It’s a tricky thing, right? Because we definitely want people to know just how amazing The Golden Lily is (and it is AMAZING), but we don’t want anyone to feel as though the book was spoiled for them. However, though we can politely request that people not post spoilers, we can’t force anyone to take them down.

I think that, truthfully, you’ll never be able to stop it all, unless you embargo the book, and even then leaks happen. But we’re hopeful that the awesome community of Vampire Academy and Bloodlines fans will help in requesting (nicely! and respectfully!) that people remove spoilers, and assist their fellow fans in avoiding them.

That said, if you (and now I speak to the entire Internet) have been lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of The Golden Lily, please please please please please do not spoil it for those who have not. Feel free to review the book, but please don’t ruin it for everyone who is waiting very patiently for the book to arrive on their doorstep or at their local store.

This was a great week to launch our Things We Are Ridiculously Excited About feature, because guess what arrived in the office yesterday? Our Breathless Reads slipcases! Which, you guessed it, we’re ridiculously excited about! These slipcases contain advanced reader copies of all five of the Fall 2012 Breathless Reads titles (Origin by Jessica Khoury, The Innocents by Lili Peloquin, Venom by Fiona Paul, Black City by Elizabeth Richards, and Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes), which we’re so excited to share with the world. Plus, they’re super pretty, and that gorgeous gold color is really brightening up the office. :)

These slipcases will be going out to industry professionals, traditional media, and select bloggers, but we will also be giving a few away on our Breathless Reads Facebook page throughout the summer, so if you haven’t become a fan of Breathless already, be sure to head over and like the page! We’re launching a new recurring segment here on the Penguin Teen Tumblr called Things We Are Ridiculously Excited About, because, you know, we get excited about things, this is an exciting business, and we want to tell you about it!
