The Penguin Teen Author Spotlight welcomes Marie Lu today, the day before Prodigy comes out! Marie Lu’s Legend trilogy has been hailed as ”…Les Miserables meets Blade Runner" (USA Today) and Entertainment Weekly says, "Fine writing and excellent execution. Sequel please!" We have to say, we agree. This series has taken Penguin Teen HQ by storm - we can’t stop forcing everyone to read it! Before you head to your local bookstore to pick up Prodigy tomorrow, let’s get to know the creative energy behind this awesome trilogy!
Name: Marie Lu
Novel: Legend and Prodigy (Legend #2)
Available: Prodigy comes out tomorrow!
Who’s your favorite author, living or dead? Brian Jacques, whose Redwall series introduced me to the world of Fantasy/Sci-Fi.
What’s your favorite thing about your book? Two equal protagonists, and the nifty font colors!
If you could spend one year on a deserted island with one character from literature, who would you choose? Hermione. If she could keep her pals safe through the Deathly Hallows camping sequence, she can keep us alive on the deserted island.
Where do you write? Anywhere and everywhere—coffee shop, house, train, plane, etc.
Who is your favorite hero or heroine of history? So many! But one of my favorites is Harriet Tubman. She was so badass.
Do you tweet? What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever tweeted? I tweet frequently! I’m not entirely convinced that my tweets are funny, although I did once destroy a bunch of childhoods by ruminating aloud on the swamp scene in The Neverending Story.
What is your favorite season? Fall. I love the crisp air and the anticipation of the holidays.
If you could teleport anywhere in the known universe right now, where would you go? Preferably Earth, because I’d die instantly if I teleported anywhere else. On Earth, I’d go for Bora Bora. With a suitcase of books.
Do you have any writing rituals? I like writing in the mornings, and I must have music (with no lyrics) playing.
What is your idea of earthly happiness? The freedom to choose.
What is the best concert you’ve ever been to? A celebration of Mozart concert back in college. Because Mozart rocks some serious socks.
What are you currently working on? Something in the realm of YA High Fantasy!
Thanks, Marie! We can’t WAIT to see what you write next!
