Q&A with S.E. Hinton, Part 4
What was it like on the set of The Outsiders?
Fun. I had six kids to look out for. I am still close to them.

Why do you think it’s necessary to write about darker subjects for teens?
Darker? Or more truthful? I wanted a realistic portrayal of teen life as I was witnessing it.
Did you have future generations of readers in mind when writing The Outsiders?
I didn’t have ANY readers in mind when I wrote The Outsiders. I wrote it for myself first.
If you could go back and write The Outsiders again, would you change anything? Is there anything you would do differently now?
Sure. I could do a much better-written book. But it wouldn’t be The Outsiders.
I’m sure you all have heard of the classic YA novel, The Outsiders. I know I definitely read it when I was in school, and I know it’s one of those books that literally everyone has read. But not in e-book form! At least, not until today! Because The Outsiders is now available for purchase as an e-book!
