Those of you who’ve been following us for a while know the love we have for the amazing book trailer Nina LaCour and her friends created for her latest novel, THE DISENCHANTMENTS, which came out in February. But THE DISENCHANTMENTS was not Nina’s first book, nor was the trailer for THE DISENCHANTMENTS her first book trailer. In fall of 2009, Nina’s debut novel, HOLD STILL, was published to great acclaim (it was even a Morris Award finalist!), and she and her very talented friends (seriously, so jealous of how brilliant they are) did a trailer for that book, too! You can watch it here.

Cut to now (get it? because we’re talking about movies?)—Nina and her friends are going to shoot a HOLD STILL movie! But they need some help, so they’re working on funding the film through Kickstarter. Click the link to learn more about Nina, the book, the cast, and more!

This was a great week to launch our Things We Are Ridiculously Excited About feature, because guess what arrived in the office yesterday? Our Breathless Reads slipcases! Which, you guessed it, we’re ridiculously excited about! These slipcases contain advanced reader copies of all five of the Fall 2012 Breathless Reads titles (Origin by Jessica Khoury, The Innocents by Lili Peloquin, Venom by Fiona Paul, Black City by Elizabeth Richards, and Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes), which we’re so excited to share with the world. Plus, they’re super pretty, and that gorgeous gold color is really brightening up the office. :)

These slipcases will be going out to industry professionals, traditional media, and select bloggers, but we will also be giving a few away on our Breathless Reads Facebook page throughout the summer, so if you haven’t become a fan of Breathless already, be sure to head over and like the page! We also have a Breathless Reads Tumblr which we’ll be posting content on throughout the Breathless Fall 2012 campaign (and beyond), so make sure to follow us there as well!

We’re launching a new recurring segment here on the Penguin Teen Tumblr called Things We Are Ridiculously Excited About, because, you know, we get excited about things, this is an exciting business, and we want to tell you about it!
Our inaugural Thing We Are Ridiculously Excited About is Skype in the Classroom. Skype has been working on a classroom initiative for a while now, and we’re thrilled to be their exclusive publishing partner for the launch of Skype in the Classroom. Skype puts it best when they say that the goal of Skype in the Classroom is to “bring relevant content directly to innovative teachers who are looking to create unforgettable shared learning experiences for their students.”
We’re ridiculously excited about collaborating with Skype to bring authors and teachers together to enrich the learning experiences of their students. Check out the Penguin profile on Skype in the Classroom to find out which authors are ready to Skype!
